Today was the day to enjoy things that are close to me and that are free to use. We humans tend to forget the value of things and people that are always there, and we realize what we had only after we have lost it. It’s so easy to take for granted the fresh air you’re breathing in, the food that is served to you daily, the ability to move by yourself safely and effortlessly, all the love you receive and give, and possibility to decide things concerning you. The list is so, so long.
Why we become so blind to things we have? Why do we so easily start to complain and demand for more? Why we realize the value of what we’ve got only after we’ve lost it? Are we so greedy? I don’t really know for sure. But I’ve noticed that people who have lost practically everything, can still be happy for what they have. They are able to live, to feel, to think, to appreciate the people around them. It’s more like the way of seeing things. Who wants to see another day, if it has nothing to offer? And vice versa, why not showing to the surroundings that you appreciate the opportunity to still be there.

One of “my things” has been the feeling of being in a wrong place. I don’t like the long cold winter, and I love warmth of the summer. As long as I remember, I have felt like living only in summer time, and in earlier years people around me couldn’t understand what I meant. I felt so relieved when the spring finally turned into summer and I could feel the sun on my skin. And yes, of course, my skin doesn’t have too much of pigmentation so I burn my skin easily! It’s the dilemma of my life: the thing that I need so much is the one that may hurt me so much. But it has taught me to value the things I’ve got.
One of the things that I highly value in my life, is the possibility to enjoy the clean nature around me. Clean air, bright sky, fresh waters, green forests with all those resources, and the possibility to enjoy all of those free of charge. And that is one the main things I’ve been thinking of: do we really value the things that have no price tag on it?
My challenge of the day for you is to think about all the good things you have in your life. Can you see the value of the things that have no price tag on them, that have always been there, all those tiny things that make your life worth living? Can you really point a finger on all of those things, that have brought you here and that are going to take you so far beyond the horizon?
With valued thoughts
Joana
