Building community

How many times you’ve been in a group, that you stumbled on? How many times you’ve grown out of a group you once thought to be your soulmates but you realize you were only a provider? How many times you felt of being essential part of your group and been fully supported?

These things I’ve considered during past days. We are social creatures. As a species we are dependent on our group. As a child we are totally depending on the care of our caretakers for first 5-7 years, and even until teenage years we are growing and developing, and learning from our community.

In modern day social media the idea of community is transformed from the original one. We are told to build our community as a business owner. We are told to provide information and feelings into our community. We are told to be active part in our community. And at the same time we are part of so many communities. How can we do it at the same time?

I have noticed in many cases, that as the pace of communication has become faster, some people tend to believe that we need to be for them 24/7. That we are able to answer any email right in that second we receive it, that we have nothing but time to chat and share, that we are not interested in them if it takes more than half an hour to answer. I don’t know about you, but I’m so often working on something that needs to be finished or I’d get into trouble. If I’ve washed a dog, I need to brush and dry him too, or the coat will get tangled. If I’m reading a scientific letter, I need to focus on it to really understand, what it was about, not to run to save the dinner from burning.

It important to focus on the goal. There are many things trying to take a piece of your time, for some people more than for the others. Let's value the time we have!

I have tried several different time management programs and none of them really worked for me. I’m a very social person, and I feel urged to help people. But it means that my time is consumed by other people around me and I get easily distracted. Right now I’m working on my own type of calendar to organize my time in a better way. It was a turning point to have an insight that actually people are jealous about my time and attention. They want to get the major part of my attention, ignoring my preferences or other people’s needs. It is in my responsibility to determine how I spend my time. I want to learn, build MY community and make this world a bit better place. Because I have a feeling that i’m not the only one struggling with time management. I wish to accomplish that calendar soon, if not distracted 😉

With timely community thoughts
