Today is an important milestone in our family. The youngest of my children graduated from the 9th grade and in next autumn will start in a new school and in a new city. It brings me memories of me at the same age. I had no other idea but high school and all the details about future were blur.
World has changed so much in 30 years. Nowadays you don’t need to choose one certain path to go occupationally. You can try and change your career several times during your life. Actually very few people have the luxury of having only one career during their adulthood, most people are forced to change their career for external reasons. I find it relieving that you don’t need to make such decisions before you’re even adult.

When I was in high school I came up with the idea of going to study to become a goldsmith but the principle didn’t allow me to take art classes instead of music classes. In that way he influenced my career, and I ended up studying biology. It didn’t stop me doing arts and crafts, and I learned by myself to make jewellery, even some silver chains and pendants. But these experiences have taught me that nothing can stop you from being what you really want. If it’s not your career, where you gain your income, it can be your hobby and important way of expressing your artistic self.
Don’t let the first feeling of disappointment or discourage to keep you away from doing what you really want to. It takes time and effort to master any skill, and allow yourself the joy of learning. You deserve it!
With lots of trial and error
Joana
